This original poem is about the unique name and wildlife of Bassenthwaite Lake, perfectly catching Skiddaw’s sweeping slopes, the slow Derwent, and Dodd Wood's returning ospreys. Anyone who treasures peaceful Lakeland walks and birdwatching will truly love having this beautiful linocut print on their wall.

Bassenthwaite Lake

Of all the Lakeland's many meres,
Just this one's called a lake by name;
The others kept, down all the years,
Their older words, and stay the same.

Each spring the ospreys fly again
From Africa to Dodd Wood's trees,
And fish the lake through sun and rain,
Then climb, with silver, on the breeze.

And rising on the eastern side,
Old Skiddaw's slopes come sweeping down,
While Derwent, running slow and wide,
Moves on toward Cockermouth town.

The print. A4 (21 x 29.7cm) or A3 (29.7 x 42cm). Framed in a solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, with shatterproof acrylic glazing and hanging fixtures fitted, or unframed on 200gsm fine-art paper, sent flat and ready for a frame of your own. Printed to order.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
