Set within a beautiful linocut, this poem is about the rich history of Coniston Water, catching the slate-scarred Old Man, watchful Brantwood, the steam Gondola, and lingering echoes of childhood sailing and Campbell's loss. It will look wonderful on the wall of anyone who deeply loves the quiet magic of this lake.

Coniston Water

The Old Man stands above the town,
Its flanks cut deep by slate and ore,
And Ruskin's Brantwood, looking down,
Keeps watch along the eastern shore.

The Gondola, all brass and steam,
Glides past the island where, one day,
The Swallows camped (at least, the dream
Of them), and sailed their boat away.

One winter dawn, the lake lay flat
As glass, and Bluebird screamed across,
And then was gone; and after that,
The quiet here holds Campbell's loss.

The print. A4 (21 x 29.7cm) or A3 (29.7 x 42cm). Framed in a solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, with shatterproof acrylic glazing and hanging fixtures fitted, or unframed on 200gsm fine-art paper, sent flat and ready for a frame of your own. Printed to order.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
