Set into a striking linocut illustration, this original poem is about a walker finding perfect rest at Elter Water, beautifully catching the timeless charm of its gliding swans, green slate quarries, and towering Langdale Pikes. Any tired rambler who misses the fells will absolutely love hanging this print on their wall.

Elterwater

The Norse who settled named it so:
The lake of swans; and to this day
The swans still glide, both to and fro,
Where reeds grow thick along the bay.

Beside the green, the inn's low door
Lets walkers in from wind and rain,
And quarry saws, as years before,
Still cut the green slate, grain by grain.

And from the shore, beyond the reeds,
The Langdale Pikes stand close and high,
And all a tired walker needs
Is here: the swans, the fells, the sky.

The print. A4 (21 x 29.7cm) or A3 (29.7 x 42cm). Framed in a solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, with shatterproof acrylic glazing and hanging fixtures fitted, or unframed on 200gsm fine-art paper, sent flat and ready for a frame of your own. Printed to order.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
