Set into a beautiful linocut illustration of Haweswater, this original poem tells of Mardale being flooded to supply Manchester, its ruins laid bare in summer, and the loss of England’s last wild eagle. The print perfectly catches the wind-swept emptiness of the valley, and anyone enchanted by hidden histories will love it on their wall.

Haweswater

Beneath the water Mardale lies,
Its walls, its bridge, its winding lane,
Drowned out beneath the open skies
So Manchester could drink the rain.

When summer's dry, the level falls,
And Mardale rises into sight:
A bridge, the lines of old stone walls,
The road, laid bare in summer light.

The last wild eagle England knew
Flew here alone for years, until
One spring he wasn't there; and through
The empty sky, the wind blows still.

The print. A4 (21 x 29.7cm) or A3 (29.7 x 42cm). Framed in a solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, with shatterproof acrylic glazing and hanging fixtures fitted, or unframed on 200gsm fine-art paper, sent flat and ready for a frame of your own. Printed to order.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
