This poem is about the stony climb up Scafell Pike, catching the lonely feel of the path, the sudden sweeping views, and the quiet sadness of England's highest war memorial. Set into a beautiful linocut print, it would look wonderful on the wall of any keen hillwalker who loves the fells.

Scafell Pike

The last climb is a field of stone,
Grey boulders tumbled, sharp and bare,
And every step you take alone,
However many others there.

Then there's the cairn: the highest ground
That England has, where cloud blows through,
And for a moment, all around,
The fells break open into view.

A plaque remembers those who went
From these same valleys to the war;
We read the words, and our descent
Is slower than it was before.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
