Set into a beautiful linocut illustration, this original poem tells the story of Wrynose Pass, capturing the march of Roman legions, the historic county boundaries, and the twisting descent towards Cockley Beck. Anyone who loves the fells or holds fond memories of this dramatic mountain route will treasure this print on their wall.

Wrynose Pass

The Roman road ran through this pass
From Ambleside towards the west,
Past Hardknott, down to Ravenglass,
And we still climb where legions pressed.

Up on the top a stone still stands
Where three old counties used to meet:
Westmorland's, Cumberland's, the lands
Of Lancashire, beneath our feet.

Then down the westward twists we go
To Cockley Beck and Duddon's stream,
That rises here, and, far below,
Will reach the sea, a silver seam.

The print. A4 (21 x 29.7cm) or A3 (29.7 x 42cm). Framed in a solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, with shatterproof acrylic glazing and hanging fixtures fitted, or unframed on 200gsm fine-art paper, sent flat and ready for a frame of your own. Printed to order.

Sizes

A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm

A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm

Each size is the printed sheet itself. Framed, the 20 mm moulding sits outside it and there is no mount, so the whole sheet is on show. Unframed, it is sent flat, ready for a frame of your own.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper — no gloss and no glare, so the words read cleanly from across a room.

Framed in a 20 mm wide solid wood moulding in black, white or natural wood, glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, with a backing board and hanging fixtures already fitted.

Unframed prints are the same paper and the same print, sent flat.
