The climb to the high bowl of Stickle Tarn reveals a dramatic alpine arena. The sheer crag face of Pavey Ark rises directly behind the dark water, flanked by Harrison Stickle's peak to the left. Rough moor grass in the foreground perfectly captures the imposing scale of the Langdale Pikes.

The 1930s railway poster tradition reduces this topography into striking, graphic shapes. Broad areas of flat ink define the sunlit rock and deep purple shadows, anchored by the tarn's dark reflection. From across a room, blocks of ochre, slate grey and muted lavender resolve into an instantly recognisable mountain scene.

Ideal for a stairwell or a sitting room, this print arrives framed and ready to hang. A natural wood frame warms the earthy moorland tones, while black sharpens the vintage aesthetic. Part of a wider railway-style series, it is easily collected to build a striking hallway gallery.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural wood.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

The Railway Screen Print series

The 1930s railway poster: flat inks, bold shapes, one perfect line of type

The style that sold the British countryside to the railway age. Flat screen-printed colour, hard-edged clouds and a place name set large across the foot of the sheet. Every poster in this collection treats a Lakeland place the way the LNER and Shell artists treated a coastline.
