Tarn Hows is a celebrated beauty spot, an island-studded tarn ringed by dark conifers and larch. Walkers follow the familiar path curving along its wooded shore, looking out to where the high fells rise beyond.

This design reimagines the landscape through striking, impossible geometry. Meticulous ink-style hatching builds the surrounding trees and slopes in bold monochrome, while the tarn's surface transforms into a mind-bending tessellation of birds lifting directly from the water. From across a room, it reads as a fascinating optical illusion that reshapes a familiar Lakeland view.

Perfect for a study or hallway, this print demands a second look. It arrives framed and ready to hang. A black frame perfectly grounds the sharp linework, while a natural wood moulding softens the monochrome palette. Part of a wider collection, it sits brilliantly alongside other geometric designs as a compelling set.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural wood.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

Ink hatching and impossible geometry, with a tessellation rising from the water

Precise ink hatching, rock strata that interlock impossibly, and a tessellation of birds emerging from the water's reflection. Black on cream, and rewarding to stand close to.
