Grasmere is a small, round lake defined by the single wooded island at its centre. Walkers trace the shoreline through thick reed beds, looking across the water to where the shoulders of Helm Crag and Silver How rise to enclose the valley.

This design captures the landscape in the bold tradition of 1930s railway posters, reducing the geography to striking, interlocking shapes. Flat layers of colour build the scene: deep purples for the crags set against the ochre of the foreground reeds. From across a room, the dark silhouette of the island commands immediate attention.

Arriving framed and ready to hang, this print makes an ideal focal point for a sitting room or study. A black wood frame sharpens the dark tones, while a natural frame echoes the warm foreground. Part of a wider series, it pairs easily with other locations to build a graphic hallway set.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural oak.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

The Railway Screen Print series

The 1930s railway poster: flat inks, bold shapes, one perfect line of type

The style that sold the British countryside to the railway age. Flat screen-printed colour, hard-edged clouds and a place name set large across the foot of the sheet. Every poster in this collection treats a Lakeland place the way the LNER and Shell artists treated a coastline.
