Honister Pass is a formidable climb. The narrow road pitches steeply through a rocky defile, flanked by towering crags and the slate spoil of old quarry workings scarring the fellside. As the valley falls away behind, it offers a spectacular, hard-won perspective for anyone traversing its rugged heights.

This design captures the raw energy of the pass in a vibrant Impressionist style. With no hard outlines, the steep gradients and slate slopes are built entirely from broken colour and heavy, visible brushstrokes. From across a room, these shifting purples, golds and soft blues dissolve into a brilliant play of light over the mountainous terrain.

Framed and ready to hang, this piece brings the drama of the high fells into a hallway, stairwell or study. A natural wood frame beautifully complements the earthy tones of the quarry spoil. Part of a wider Impressionist series, it looks striking alone or gathered as a set of three Lakeland views.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural wood.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

Every poster is printed and framed to order, at the production facility closest to your delivery address.

The Impressionist series

Broken colour and dissolving light — plein-air oil, no outlines anywhere

Painted as plein-air oil: broken colour in short loaded strokes, edges dissolved by light, the water a field of dabbed complementaries. The softest thing we make.
