Tarn Hows is an island-studded tarn ringed by dark conifers and turning larch. Walkers follow the well-worn path curving along its shore, looking out across the reflecting water to the high fells rising blue in the distance.

This poster captures the landscape through the broken colour and dissolving light of the Impressionist tradition. Without a single harsh outline, the wooded islands and rippling water are built from layered, painterly strokes. From across a room, the eye blends the vibrant heather, golden foliage, and shimmering blues into a cohesive scene, anchored by the classic, bold typography of vintage railway art.

Hung in a welcoming hallway or a bright sitting room, this piece brings the outdoors inside. It arrives framed and ready to hang, with the print running edge-to-edge for a clean finish. A Natural wood frame beautifully echoes the autumnal tones of the larch, while a White frame highlights the pastel hues in the sky. Belonging to a wider series, it is perfect alone or grouped with other prints to map your favourite Lakeland walks.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural oak.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

The Impressionist series

Broken colour and dissolving light — plein-air oil, no outlines anywhere

Painted as plein-air oil: broken colour in short loaded strokes, edges dissolved by light, the water a field of dabbed complementaries. The softest thing we make.
