Honister Pass is a dramatic, steep climb where a narrow road winds through a rugged rocky defile. Walkers and drivers alike tackle this high route, flanked by imposing crags, slate spoil and old quarry workings, with the valley falling away sharply behind.

This design captures the sheer terrain in the classic 1930s railway poster tradition. The steep defile and industrial slate workings are reduced to bold, geometric shapes in flat inks. From across a room, the eye is drawn instantly to the sweeping ribbon of the road and the towering, shadowed rock faces beneath soft, stylised clouds.

Arriving framed and ready to hang, it makes a striking statement on a hallway wall or stairwell. A black frame grounds the heavy shadows of the crags, while natural wood echoes the rugged outdoor landscape. This piece belongs to a wider series, making it easy to collect a gallery of your favourite Lakeland climbs.

Sizes

30 × 40 cm — 12 × 16 in

45 × 60 cm — 18 × 24 in

50 × 70 cm — 20 × 28 in

Each size is the printed poster itself; the 20 mm moulding sits outside it. There is no mount — the print runs to the frame, so the whole design is on show.

Paper, frame and glazing

Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte fine-art paper, chosen for flat colour: no gloss, no reflections, and ink that sits in the sheet rather than on it.

Framed in a 20 mm wide, 24 mm deep solid wood moulding — black, white or natural oak.

Glazed with shatterproof acrylic rather than glass, so a large poster arrives intact.

MDF backing board with hanging fixtures already fitted.

The Railway Screen Print series

The 1930s railway poster: flat inks, bold shapes, one perfect line of type

The style that sold the British countryside to the railway age. Flat screen-printed colour, hard-edged clouds and a place name set large across the foot of the sheet. Every poster in this collection treats a Lakeland place the way the LNER and Shell artists treated a coastline.
